Concept cars a funny thing when you sell new and used cars for a living. As for us here at Tom Scott Honda, we're just a mess of emotions. On the one hand, it's exciting, especially since cars are one of the more popular conversations around our water cooler. And while it's nice to have that reassurance that a car you've just heard about will someday make it into production, some of the best talking points we've ever had are over the ones that might not. Which leads us to the other hand: as fascinating as they may be, when it comes to concept cars, we can't get our hopes up.

But when you see something like the Honda Gear Concept for the first time, it's awfully hard not to.

Recently unveiled at the Montreal Auto Show, we don't quite know where to begin with the Gear. For starters, it's a three-door hatchback, it's smaller than the Honda Fit, and word has it that its unique exterior design was inspired by none other than fixed-gear bicycles. Needless to say, it's a car that needs to be seen to be fully appreciated, but to give you a better idea of what Honda's going for, we're going to pass the mic over to Dave Marek, Design Director at Honda R&D Americas, Inc.

"Subcompact cars are usually either utilitarian, but uninspiring or they're fun, zippy cars that are impractical and too expensive for the Gen-Y buyer," says Marek. "GEAR Concept tears down those walls - it's practical but fun, customizable, connected and affordable. Everything that young, discerning urban buyers would want in a car."1

If we didn't know any better, it sounds like hipster nation might just go a little ape for this car. But by the same token, we can't stop gawking at it ourselves.

Unfortunately, there's still no word on potential pricing, release date, and powertrain figures, although from a purely aesthetic standpoint, we have to say that the conceptual think-tank over at Honda these days is most certainly cooking with gas. We'll keep you on any updates as they come, so keep checking back to our blog for the time being, and regardless of whether the Gear shows up in our showroom or not, feel free to come see us at 603 11th Ave. in North Nampa, ID 83687 to test drive a Honda today.
